Taking A Lot of Fluids Prevents Infection

Faculty member of the Department of Nutrition at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, indicating that the infection is common in the winter, said: “The use of a lot of fluids prevents the infection by moistening the mucus.”

In a conversation with WEBDA, Dr. Mohammad Safarian said: "In winter, common cold and infections are more common, and allergies become relatively less common due to the humidity of the air.”

He added: "Common cold is due to cold air breathing and infection is often due to the contamination of the air, so considering that proper and healthy nutrition should be observed in all seasons and days of the year, eating vegetables containing antioxidants, and fruits are recommended more often.”

Head of the School of Public Health of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences stated that nutrition from sources of vitamins such as citrus, vegetables, especially spinach is very effective in this season and said: “In order to reduce the risk of infection, the use of enough fluids that moisturize the mucus and prevent infection is recommended.”

This nutritionist stated: “In the cold season, the use of energy carbohydrates, which can help you with cold tolerance and less cold feeling, and also eating starchy foods such as bread, pasta, rice ... protect the body against cold.”

Dr. Safarian also said: “Eating turnips containing vitamin C, aspirin, and also eating oranges and sweet lemon is recommended.”

Head of the Faculty of Health of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, pointing out that it is better to eat low-fat and low-salt foods at all meals, said: “During the common cold, avoid taking fried foods to prevent mucosal allergies and exacerbation of cold symptoms.”
