4844 Nurses Work in Hospitals of the University

Nursing manager of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “currently, 4844 nurses are working in hospitals of the university, while we need about 2000 more nurses for 1200 new hospital beds”.

Speaking in the sideline of nursing managers’ meeting with the university chancellor, Hassan Ezzati said: “in 2016, we obtained permit to employ 787 nurses in the university. 200 of these nurses were contract employees and their employment status changed to contract of employment in 2017”.

He said: “currently, 4844 nurses work in hospitals of the university and 2157 nurses work in private, charity and independent hospitals”.

He added: “besides nurses holding bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees, if we count the population of operation room experts, nurse anesthetists, practical nurses and their assistants as nursing staff, about 7268 nurses work for hospitals of the university and 4418 nurses work for private and charity hospitals”.

Pointing to lack of nurses in the university, the nursing manager of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “with 1200 hospital beds added to the university, we need 2000 more nurses; we hope with support from chancellor of the university, we can obtain the permit to employ nurse assistants in our hospitals”.

It should be noted that a meeting was held with the presence of Dr. Darabi, chancellor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, vice-chancellor for treatment and a panel of treatment managers of the university, nursing managers of hospitals of the university, members of nursing coordination and counties council of the university, and nursing managers of private, charity, social welfare, Sepah, the army, police, and Azad University hospitals to discuss expectations of the university from nursing managers and problems of nursing managers”.
