The Biotechnology Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences has earned the rank of the leading research center of the province in the field of basic sciences at the eighteenth festival and exhibition of research and technology of Khorasan Razavi in 2017. According to WEBDA, during the closing ceremony of the eighteenth Science and Technology Achievement Exhibition of Khorasan Razavi Province held in the hall of the International Mashhad Exhibitions, the Biotechnology Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences with 710 articles (305 ISI articles, 293 PUBMED papers and 112 SCOPUS papers) in 2016 and 2017 and 28 approved research projects during the period from September 2016 to September 2017 won the first place in Khorasan province. According to this report, in the past year, eight research projects have been jointly implemented by the Biotechnology Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences with other organizations and four have been funded from other organizations, 61 defended theses and one patent case has been implemented within the specified time period. In a conversation with WEBDA, head of the Biotechnology Research Center at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “The implementation of innovative and applied research is one of the main goals of the center.” Dr. Javad Behravan pointed to the scientific ability of the center in the production and said: “Currently, there are several drug products by the members of the production and market center, which shows that we are focusing on the production of goods along with the production of science.” He continued: “Sina Curcumin and Sina Doxsosome and a number of other products are among the pharmaceutical products by members of the research center, which have been introduced to the market of the country for several years.” Dr. Behravan referred to the research approach of the research center and said: “This center has 13 faculty members and is considered to be one of the largest research centers of the university.” Dr. Behravan referred to the association of this research center with clinical research and said: “A large part of our work is related to patients, and as a biomedical center, we can not define ourselves apart from clinical areas and in many cases we need to cooperate with clinical departments.” This researcher of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences emphasized: “Collaboration with a clinical researcher is an integral part of the research work of this center, and this interest is usually mutual, since the clinical researcher is also interested in collaborating with the biomedical researcher.” Dr. Behravan said: "In 2015, there were about 912 citations to the articles of the center in international journals, which increased the credibility of the articles in the center, while 36% of the articles in the center were published in the " Q1 " journals.” He noted: “It is noteworthy that 36% of the papers of the faculty members of the Biotechnology Research Center have been published in the 25% of the first rank prestigious international journals in the field, and this gave us the high reputation among research centers and gained the first place in the country.” Dr. Behravan added: “The vision of this center is based on the scientific and industrial progress of the country and we are trying to make valuable moves in this regard, and we also consider our self-education programs to provide a strong scientific force to play a role in other universities of the country.” Head of the Biotechnology Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences continued: “Formulation of peptide and protein drugs and liposomal drugs effective in cancer patients is part of the research project of this research center. Also, drug resistance in cancer, fracture repair and tissue regeneration and the design of suitable scaffolds for tissue engineering, the evaluation of microbial resistance and ways to cope with it, cloning of the genes associated with drug and drug delivery to cancerous tissues, purifying and identifying the effective substances of drug plants and synthesis of molecules with drug use and molecular identification with device facilities are among the ongoing researches of this center.” Head of the Biotechnology Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences noted: “The purification of the active ingredient in this research center has been accompanied by many successes. In order to achieve the purification of effective drug substances, some plants in the country can be identified and analyzed in order to see what substances are present in these plants, and then, with chemical and pharmaceutical techniques, the separation of these materials takes place.” |
