First Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Surgery in the World Using Hypnosis Carried Out in Iran

For the first time in the world, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery using the hypnosis method was performed in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Using no anesthesia and only through hypnotic induction, the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery was successfully conducted by Dr. Mahdi Fathi-associate professor of cardiac anesthesia and Dr. Amir Shahriar Aryamanesh-assistant professor of department of orthopedics at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences-in Emam Reza educational, research, treatment center (under coverage of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences). Talking to WebDa, Dr. Mahdi Fathi said: “using no anesthetics and through hypnotic induction, this operation was successfully carried out by Dr. Aryamanesh on a 37-year-old man who got a torn knee ligament due to an accident”. Faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences added: “while under surgery, the patient felt no pain in his knee and often felt like he was not in the operating room at all; he also felt no pain in his knee hours after the operation”. Stating that the patient’s general health is good, Dr. Fathi said: “this method reduces the time the patient should be hospitalized in the hospital due to non-usage of anesthetics”. He pointed out that the patient’s willingness and their mental capability are crucial to this process. |
