MUMS Wins National First Rank in Patient Education

According to Webda, MUMS Vice President for Treatment announced that the university has ranked first in patient education.

“Nursing management is one of the pillars of the university. Nurses form an important component in providing treatment services and, in fact, one of the first lines of contact with patients,” said Dr. Shapoor Badii at nursing managers' meeting with the university Chancellor.

He added, “Nursing care is central to treatment services. We have seen considerable achievements in nursing management which deserve appreciation. Mashhad University of Medical Sciences ranked first in patient education, highlighting the importance of paying attention to education alongside nursing practice.”

“The university has also made significant progress in case method – assigning nurses to [look after] patients’ care. We have done the required planning to keep nursing up-to-date at the university, including a WHO-hosted International Congress on Hand Infection Control,” he noted.

Dr. Badii continued, “Steps have been taken to [improve] patient safety by implementing codes 247 and 724. However, this area certainly needs more efforts and will be discussed (along with the issue of connecting hospital to pre-hospital emergency care and the role played by nurses) in joint meetings with nursing managers.”

He stressed, “Nurses are the first personnel having contact with the patient who feels his or her health to be at risk and is faced with considerable suffering. All nurses bear a lot of pressure but some, including those in burns and transplant wards endure more problems. We are trying to appreciate the efforts of the self sacrificing nurses in collaboration with nursing directors. This year we will pay special attention to Nurses Day and to those nurses serving in more demanding wards, and have considered approaches, hoping to reach a final conclusion on this matter.”

Referring to his meeting with nursing managers he noted, “Such meetings help us share ideas about the challenges and issues ahead and utilize the experience of our colleagues in large-scale planning.”

“Academic an non-academic nursing managers of the province were invited to the meeting in order to discuss the issues they have encountered over the past 9 months and evaluate and review indicators for measuring services and methods of patient care and treatment, and reach conclusions upon which we will plan for the next year,” he said.
