Attending Pediatrician Present 24-7 at Emergency Department of Akbar Hospital

Head of Emergency Department of Akbar Subspecialty Children's Hospital (covered by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences) announced that they have a pediatrician present 24-7 at the department, according to the Attending Physician Package of Health System Reform Plan.

Interviewed by Webda correspondent, Dr. Sepideh Bagheri said, “Emergency Department of Akbar Children's Hospital has 17 beds, five beds for emergency pediatric surgeries and 12 for pediatric internal emergencies. We have two isolation beds dedicated to emergency patients with special infections who need to be isolated.”

Dr. Bagheri added, “Sometimes the patients outnumber the available beds. A back-up emergency unit with 12 beds is also launched at the hospital and is being used due to the increased number of our patients.”

“Emergency Triage is located at the entrance to the department, with a triage nurse always present to immediately assess patients’ physical status and refer them accordingly. And there is a pediatrician at the emergency department on a 24-7 basis, in compliance with the Attending Physician Package of Health System Reform Plan,” she continued.

Dr. Bagheri finally stressed that referring patients to the relevant wards will not take more than six hours, and in general no one is hospitalized at emergency department for more than 24 hours.
