The university welcomes surgeons interested in endocrine surgery fellowship

This specialist in general surgery at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “as endocrine and endocrine glands (thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal) surgery sub-specialty is becoming global, we are to create fellowship in this field and we welcome faculty members and physicians who want to take this course. Of course, as there are no surgeons applying for this fellowship, the applicants should be sent abroad to take this course”.

Applying radiotherapy during surgery is a new technological advancement in the world

Dr. Jangju said: “radiotherapy during surgery is a new technological advancement in the world and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences is applying this technology to treat cancers requiring radiotherapy”.

If available, during surgery radiotherapy device reduces 45-day long treatment to 10 minutes

Faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “the importance of this device lies in the fact that a patient undergoing breast cancer surgery should stay in Mashhad for a month and a half to receive radiotherapy, while this device meets this need at once during the surgery by just adding 10 minutes to the surgery

During surgery radiotherapy brings patients great satisfaction

Associate professor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “another advantage of radiotherapy during surgery is patient’s satisfaction, because they are unconscious during the surgery, feel no pain and can follow the course of their treatment after the surgery”.

Dr. Jangju said: “while receiving radiotherapy, a person’s skin, bladder, lungs, and heart are unwantedly subject to radiotherapy so that the radiation reaches the target organ; whereas, during the surgery, radiotherapy is applied to the target organ which receives most radiation and other organs do not get radiation”.

Hoping that this device be purchased for the university, he said: “with radiotherapy during surgery, radiotherapy is applied once. This is done throughout the world while in Iran it is only done in a few cities”.
